Hello! I’m Amy, the voice behind this lovely blog. This blog is on a mission to share stories that’ll make you laugh, cry, and inspire you to live a better and happier life. You see, I’m not your typical blogger girl. Sure, I have 3 beautiful kids and I am married to a doctor, but that’s where the similarities end. Most of the bloggers you see today are extremely well off, and haven’t really experienced many hardships. Or, at least that’s what they want you to believe. Well, guess what? I didn’t grow up in the suburbs or some big city with an elegant lifestyle. I’m the girl that came from the rougher side of town. I was born and raised in the ghetto of St. Louis. But, I’m also one of the lucky ones that made it out.
The crazy thing is, it shouldn’t be this way. There is no special reason why I was one of they lucky ones. However, this country was designed to keep those born into poverty, poor. And, it takes a lot of grit, perseverance, and help from others to get ahead. Without the help of the many people who believed in me along the way, I wouldn’t be here today. I’m grateful for the lessons I learned along the way and the kindness that was extended to me. I will say this though, none of that would have made any difference if I didn’t have the mindset that I wanted more for myself.
I knew deep down that I was destined for more. None of the stereotypical ghetto girl personas resonated with me. So when people, including my own mother, told me that I wasn’t any better than anyone else in my neighborhood, I did two things: cry and figure out a way to work harder. Despite dealing with a lot of anxiety because I never quite felt like I belonged, I’ve always figured out a way to get what I wanted. From working full time to pay my own way through a catholic high school to graduating from university with honors while working full-time and simultaneously at least one part-time job. I can honestly say that the phrase “where there’s a will, there’s a way”, speaks to my soul.
If I had to sum my life up into one saying, it would be “it takes a village to raise a child”. Except, I’d tweak it a bit because growing up I had to find my own village. My family was never my village. Unfortunately, that’s more common than it should be. So, this blog is going to be a community to help you, me, and everyone like us flourish. I whole heartedly believe that in order to rise up, we have to feel our best. So yeah, that’s what this blog is about. We’re going to discuss our fears, hopes, ideas, and dreams, but also those things that make us feel better in general. For instance, skincare and fitness. I believe every facet of our lives impacts how well we do. And sometimes, just knowing we’re not alone, is all we need to push through.
Now, I realize that my story isn’t typical, but I don’t for one second believe that it can’t be. I truly believe that with the right mindset, you can achieve anything you want. Now, I will say this the lower you start on the totem poll, the more bumps you’ll experience on the way. They’re rough, I know! I’ll give you that. But, remember those bumps are beautiful lessons that have been wrapped up in some ugly paper. If you peel those layers back, you’ll discover a magnificent gem underneath. We’re all diamonds baby, some of us just need a little extra polishing and added facets to make our brilliance shine through.
